Originally opening in 1984, the East Race Waterway was the first artificial wastewater course in North America, and is currently only one of six in the world. Features of this facility include whitewater instructional courses, picnic facilities, a playground and a fish ladder for seasonal viewing of Chinook salmon and steelhead trout. Fishing, kayaking, rating and innertubing opportunities are available on the adjacent St. Joseph River.
